the over-wintering blooms

A generation of students who began college in their dorm, at their home, in front of a screen.
Their classwork relegated to a "Zoom" call and social interaction confined to a minimum.
Now invited to step into new lights, to experience God's work in a new way.
Let's see what the Lord has done in the wake of these curious years!
"For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord." Ephesians 5:8
"My first instance of meeting at the BSM was with Coffee and Donuts where I met Hunter Fountain. We decided to meet up and for the next seven months we talked about Christ and about what that meant. I had been Muslim for about 13 years and then agnostic for 5 years. I submitted my life to Christ on April 14th, 2021 after a conversation at Engage 24, and have been a follower ever since."

Led by Director, Gary Davis, our staff team saw some changes and some consistency this year. Natalie Gustafson and Hud Allen served as CMI's in the spring, stepping away in the fall to welcome CMI's Isaac Smith and Malorie Wenzel. Jessie Allen, Christy Hill, and Jessica Hill all continued as associates.

Hunter Fountain began his career at the BSM as a campus missionary intern. He then became a full time associate and brought passion and growth to our ministry for 6 years. Hunter discipled many college guys, shared the gospel on campus, and set a lasting culture for our student leaders. Hunter stepped away this past fall to serve as the Youth Pastor at FBC Nac.
Meet Our Leadership
"First of all, then, I urge that supplication, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people...This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." 1 Timothy 2:1, 3-4

Engage 24

is an event we do every semester. We spend 24 hours on campus committed to praying for our peers, our campus, our city. During this event we often also host an outreach table where many evangelistic conversations happen, as well as an on-campus free lunch! Every semester we get to engage with new students; sharing the gospel with them and praying for them!

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine." Isaiah 43:1
"I chose to go through Engage Training because I wanted to learn how to talk to people about Jesus and gain confidence while doing it. After going through the program, I can say that it has impacted me in a lot of ways. This includes being able to just go up to someone random and start up a conversation. Another way it has impacted me is it has further grounded what I believe in; I feel like my roots have grown further in Christ than before I started. An experience of sharing on campus that sticks out to me was when Lily and I kept getting shot down one day and it was kind of hurtful and discouraging. This experience helped me realize that not everyone will want to listen to you, even if you're sharing THE news. The prophets, apostles, and the early church experienced the same thing, which is important to remember. As long as you're able to talk to one person about Jesus while having a good time, that's a successful outing in my opinion."

Engage Training

is a 4 week class that equips students to share the gospel. Students learn their specific call to share the gospel, as well as techniques to help them share more effectively. Following the class, students have the opportunity to go on campus to start gospel conversations with their peers.

Perspective Cards

are a tool we use to start gospel conversations on campus! They are a simple survey about various aspects of faith and spirituality like who Jesus is, where truth comes from, and the meaning and purpose of life.

Panola College BSM

"Each week we table near the Health Science building with a 'question of the day.' One of our recent connections, Codie, an LVN Nursing student,  was so excited to talk about Jesus with us! She is looking for Christian community and a church home. Lyndsey and I got to talk to her for an hour about the opportunities to plug into scripture and serving with the body of Christ through BSM and local churches!"

Angelina College BSM

Picture
Jessica Hill directed the ministry at Angelina College in the spring and handed the work over to Christy Hill for the fall. Hud Allen, Jackson Vandover, Isaac Smith, Gavin Winders, and Faith Gleason have also served at Angelina College.

"We have seen the Lord work so much at Angelina this year. So many students from all religious backgrounds have made themselves feel very at home at our mobile BSM table. One student in particular came to our retreat this fall curious, but not decided on a relationship with Christ. He decided that weekend to give his life to Christ and I have had the joy of beginning to disciple him in his new walk with the Lord."
-Isaac Smith, Campus Missionary Intern, SFA, AC

the table

"When I first entered into the college worship scene, the Table was only partially student led and was completely new because worship wasn't held at the BSM the previous year. We did well with what we had and God used us to bring people to the throne. But when the year ended, we lost quite of few members of our band and production team. In the fall Jenny Smith, another BSM lead team member, and I were tasked with leading the group. I didn't feel completely prepared, but God was faithful to us, kept our minds on the same page, and grew the ministry far beyond the horizon of our initial ambitions. Where democracy, confusion, and inconsistency once ruled, clarity, efficiency, and organization arose to keep us going strong. Now we have a solid foundation to run with, regardless of who holds the title of leader."
