Stories of Transformation

We look back on our year of ministry with so much gratitude! Celebrate with us through stories of God's amazing transformations. We are so thankful for you and your continued support of the ministry, and hope you enjoy the following collection of stories, testimonies, and ministry updates from our 2022 year.
You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16

"I had the amazing opportunity to serve in True North Church Rochester, NY 3 times in my time here at SFA, and each trip the Lord revealed to me important lessons to better my heart for missions.

From going house to house shoveling snow, inviting people to the church, and also helping serve in a local mobile soup kitchen (The Father's Heart) as they shared God's word, I've been able to see that serving can look many ways, but are all equal in helping the kingdom of heaven.

What Pastor David and his family are doing in Rochester is hard work, and seeing how that community is broken and in need of the Lord, I hope and pray that their light continues to shine bright and bring peace and blessings to them and the people of Rochester."

"As a CMI I’ve been able to really practice what it looks like to live in ministry by building discipleship relationships and being available and open to having gospel conversations with people I meet. I’ve learned how to work with our staff as a team, how to plan logistics, how to share the gospel effectively and relationally, and how to better surrender my own agenda for the Lord's will. CMI has been a transformative two years of my life through everything that has happened, I feel able to take what I’ve learned and launch it into the rest of my life. For me, I have peace to step into a job in the workforce and do ministry through my local church and in normal day to day activities. My time in college and serving at the BSM has made me passionate about living with a kingdom mindset. I plan to live intentionally to share the greatest news of the gospel with people I meet and help other believers grow in their faith by devoting more of their lives to Christ."

Go now missions

“Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation.” - Mark 16:15
Go Now Missions mobilizes Texas university students to share the love of Christ across the world. Go Now Missions is a ministry of Texas Baptists, a cooperative organization of Baptist churches in Texas. College students are offered the opportunity to serve stateside or on international trips any time of year and for any duration of time. Students are always sent to serve with a missionary on the field and often have the opportunity to share the gospel and serve hands on.

"I served with Go Now Missions in Eastern Europe during the spring and summer of 2022. In Eastern Europe, my team and I focused primarily on reaching university students. One day after many rejections, we got to share the gospel with one student and get him connected with a team member to read the Bible together. God taught me a lot about perseverance and trusting in His strength and timing during my 6 months. Success isn't about how many people you reach but how obedient you've been to God's call."

"My name is Luke Bludworth. I recently had the opportunity to spend my Christmas break in South Asia through GoNow Missions. I was there for a little over two and a half weeks. The main focus of my trip was house-to-house evangelism. The team I served with would simply drive to a rural village and park. Then we would split into teams with translators and go opposite directions to the first houses we could come upon. We would share stories of the power and love of Jesus, but most importantly most of the families and individuals we shared with heard the gospel, many of which for the first time. We also put on Christmas programs for children and distributed blankets to the needy. At each of these types of events, large numbers of people would hear the gospel. At one of these blanket distributions, we shared the gospel with around 15 people at once before giving out blankets. After several more stories about Jesus, his power, and his love for us, two men from the crowd said they wanted to follow Jesus. Both of the men were baptized later that day as a sign to those around them that they had chosen to follow Jesus and Jesus only. This trip impacted me in ways that I never could have imagined. The biggest of which instilled in me the need for overseas missions, specifically with the least reached people in the world. I came out of the trip with a love and desire for missions that I never thought possible before the trip. I am thankful everyday for the opportunity that God gave me through my BSM and GoNow missions."

Focus Teams

A Focus Team is a new area of our ministry where students and leaders can encourage and challenge each other as they build gospel relationships in their unique areas of influence. Students and BSM staff sponsors meet together once per week to share about relationships in their life where the Lord is giving them favor with a non-believer. During this time we pray for each other, for our friends, and can give direction for difficult situations. This past year we had three Focus Teams; one in the psychology department, one in the forestry department, and one in the STEM department.
"It's been sweet to have believers come alongside me and be encouraging as we invest in the relationships the LORD has put before us. Through those times of prayer and accountability, I have gotten to see the depths of God's love and how he is far from no one. It was great to see a person I had befriended get to meet people who he didn't know knew he existed--let alone who had been consistently praying for him. God has shown me how he'll use us, his workmanship, to soften the hearts of a rebellious world."
     -Dorian Mundy, Psychology Focus Team

"
The focus teams, and the STEM focus team which is the one I’m specifically a part of, have been a great resource and accountability for intentional relationships on campus. The goal of focus teams is to meet students on campus, specifically your major, and create friendships which through them you have the ability to share the Gospel. These past two semesters with focus teams have been challenging yet very sweet. With certain majors it can be more difficult to create and develop these friendships, but when you enter with a mindset of prayer it’s sweet to see the fruit. These past semesters I’ve gotten to meet people in my yoga class (Carly), as well as students in my classes (Brooke, Bailey) which we were able to get a meal together and talk about the Gospel! These past two semester have taught me the importance of entering everything with prayer and to truly love those around you, because that’s the way you’ll genuinely care for them and their need for the Good News!"

Panola College BSM

This past fall we began a wonderful partnership with Still Waters Baptist Church to serve in the ministry at Panola College. Jessie Allen, Lyndsey Short, and Gary Davis have served with Panola during this past year.

Panola BSM hosts a sunday evening dinner + bible study and a free lunch on wednesdays. They also pack snack bags for the nursing students each week.

" The ministry over at Panola is always a wild card from semester to semester, which comes with the
nature of a junior college. That being said, we have seen consistent growth with our Free Lunch over the past
2 semesters. In Spring of 2022 we had an average of 20 students each week that joined us for lunch, but both
for Fall 2022 and so far this semester we have averaged around 80 students at lunch each week! I attribute
this first to the Lord of course, and second to our partnership with Still Waters Cowboy Church in Carthage.
Their church has given us several connections to staff and coaches that work at Panola which has been a key
factor in the growth we have seen. Additionally, their student pastor John Henry has been such a huge part in
our ministry this year leading a weekly bible study at the BSM and helping with our free lunch every week. The
Lord’s hand has been evident in this partnership, He has truly been blessing the ministry at Panola BSM and
I’m excited to see what He has in store for us in the future!"

Angelina College BSM

Christy Hill directed the ministry at Angelina College in the spring and the fall. Malorie Lahaye and Nick Lahaye have served twice a week with Angelina College.

Angelina BSM spends time each week tabling on campus to meet students. Each week they ask a fun question and a spiritual question to spark gospel conversations.
Picture
"At Angelina College, we have been able to provide community at a place where community is rare. We provide a safe space to have fun surface level conversations as well as conversations that go deeper. One win from this year is I have been able to have good conversations with a student who was previously a Jehovah's Witness. We have been able to work through some hurt in his past and I have been able to talk to him about what it means to be a Christian. He is receptive to the things I say but he still needs some time to work through hurt and figure things out for himself. You can join us in praying for him along with the college of Angelina as a whole."

Serve Team

Serve Team is a ministry of the BSM that seeks to disciple freshmen and transfer students, plug them in with a BSM ministry, and facilitate service opportunities in the Nacogdoches community. Serve Team is facilitated by BSM staff Christy Hill and Nick Lahaye. It is student-led by Stephanie Perez, Faith Gleason, and Ashley Davenport. Our student leaders recruit new students, partner them with a mentor. and then help them choose a place to serve within BSM ministry based on their spiritual giftings and passions. This past year we had 27 students serve with us.

“I’ve been so blessed to be a part of serve team. It has been amazing to be able to serve alongside a group of people who love the Lord. Not only has it been a place where I have been able to grow spiritually and with others, but there is also never a dull moment. It’s a place where you get to form connections with amazing people and serve the Lord with them. We have three amazing leaders that lead our serve team, and serve team would not be possible without them. Our team has been so blessed by God through the leadership and team members."
     -Micah Bradsher, SFA Freshman
"As students at SFASU in the '80s, James and I were privileged to be a part of the BSM (then BSU). The friendships we made were so important during our college years. When our daughter went to Tarleton, she was privileged to be a part of a strong BSM. She was nurtured and discipled by this organization and had the privilege to be on mission from Oregon to Corpus Christi to Alaska and finally to Eastern Asia. The BSM touches students' lives and we want to give forward and help support the efforts of this important organization."
